Mission Statement

The Natural Resources Trust of Easton, (NRT) incorporated in 1967 as a non-profit charity, has a membership of approximately 500 families. The primary goals of the NRT are environmental education and land preservation.

The NRT is an outgrowth of the Citizens Committee for Wheaton Farm. In 1967, when a plan to purchase Wheaton Farm faltered due to the lack of promised federal funds, the Citizens Committee was established to raise the necessary funds through private donations. Wheaton Farm, now owned by the Town of Easton, was a joint effort in land acquisition by the Town and the Citizens Committee. Originally incorporated 267 acres, Wheaton Farm has grown to nearly 600 acres through gifts and purchases.

The Town of Easton, Mass.

Since 1967 the NRT has been active in obtaining conservation restrictions and in purchasing land which is valuable to the town's open space program. The NRT holds conservation restrictions at four different locations on Queset Brook.

NRT land acquisitions have been by purchase and gift. They include Beaver Brook Woods, a 66-acre plot of land adjacent to the town's Fox Mountain on Poquanticut Avenue and 3 arces at the Shoddy Mill stie. The NRT provided financial support to the town for the purchase of a 12.5 acre addition to Wheaton Farm.
