The New England Botanical Society (NEBS) seeks an organizational-level Coordinator to assist in accomplishing its mission of connecting, inspiring, mentoring, and supporting a vibrant community of people who are passionate about the flora of New England. The Coordinator of Operations and Membership will support the day-to-day functionality of our organization and will work under the guidance of, and in close relationship with, the volunteer-based Council, Executive Committee, and President.
 

Founded in 1896, NEBS is a non-profit organization promoting the study of plants, fungi, and algae of North America, especially the flora of New England and adjacent areas. The Society holds monthly meetings during the academic year, maintains vascular and cryptogam herbaria, has a small library, and annually grants research and publication awards. Work Hours: Part-time, 24 hrs./week
Days of the Week: M-F, plus weekends and evenings
Work Location: Primarily remote
Travel Required: Yes, occasionally (mileage reimbursed at annual federal rate)
Salary Range: $20.00-$28.00/hr., compensation based on experience
 

Benefits: Paid Family Medical Leave, unemployment insurance, workman's compensation insurance, Social Security, and Medicare payments to support these state and federal benefits for retirement. Paid annual leave of 72 hrs., which is a combination of personal, vacation, holiday, and sick leave. Stipend for the use of personal phone for work tasks ($45/per month).

● Program and Volunteer Coordination (25% time)
● Membership Coordination (25%)
● Public Outreach and Communications (20%)
● Council Support (10%)
● Committees (10%)
● Budget and Finance (10%)
 

QUALIFICATIONS
 

Minimum Qualifications:
● Excellent organizational and communication skills
● Strong interest in and ability to accomplish work collaboratively
● Prior experience with digital database(s) and/or membership management software
● Proficiency in the use of computers and basic software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Editor, etc.
● Proficiency with online platforms and social media (e.g., X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
● Experience with organizational-level outreach and promotion
● Willingness and ability to learn new skills, learn from others, and make improvements based on constructive feedback
● Legally authorized to work in the United States
 

Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience or interest in botany or other plant-related fields
● Prior experience in a coordinator or administrator role
● Experience with non-profit structure and volunteer-based organizations
● Ability to work remotely – i.e., having a stable, self-provided workspace with reliable, secure internet or access to a VPN can be arranged.
 

Additional Requirements:
● The selected applicant will be required to supply their own computer and basic office needs. NEBS will provide reimbursement for required software licenses and other office supplies necessary for the position.
